The Challenge
Dorset County Hospital opened their first cardiac catheterisation lab in 2004 providing the local demographic to the hospital cardiac diagnostic services closer to home. As the demand for the service grew, so did the expertise of service delivery and in 2007, a further 2 Cardiology Consultants joined the experienced team to provide coronary intervention at Dorset County Hospital instead of patients travelling to neighbouring Trusts for their procedure. Despite performing in excess of 2500 procedures per year, waiting times gradually increased which required the need for further service expansion.
The Results
Introduction of the InHealth Mobile Lab has resulted in a reduction in wait times for Coronary Angiogram, currently at 7weeks and for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Pacemaker procedures, currently at 8weeks. In addition, having the unit permanently based at Dorset County Hospital allows the Trust flexibility of use of the unit during periods of either down-time in Lab 1 or ad-hoc demand for additional capacity.
The Trust provided:
Cardiac interventional and EP specialists, Cardiac physiologist
InHealth provided:
Relocatable solution, seamless on-site delivery, clinical support, reduction of waiting times – 6-8 weeks for all procedures
