InHealth installs 1st Hologic 3D screening units

InHealth has continued its investment in the delivery of 3 NHS National Breast Screening Programmes, with the installation of 3 brand new state-of-the-art Hologic 3Dimensions screening systems on mobile screening units.  Each unit delivers routine breast screening as part of the Surrey and North Hampshire Breast Screening Programme, providing 55 – 60 screening appointments per day, per unit to the local eligible population.

The new equipment is capable of fast, high resolution breast tomosynthesis, an advanced form of mammography that uses low-dose x-rays to detect cancer early when it is most treatable.  It provides sharp 3D images with higher clarity than traditional 2D mammography thereby reducing recalls and improving outcomes for patients.

The machine is currently working in 2D mode but InHealth are hoping to take part in the trial of tomosynthesis within the screening programme later this year.  A new 3Dimensions tomosynthesis ready machine will also be installed at the programme’s static unit located at the Jarvis Centre in Guildford.
