Supporting Experience of Care Week 23rd – 27th April

This year our Interventional Cardiac Services teams are participating in the Experiences of Care Week organised by NHS England and NHS Improvement – an international week of celebration offering healthcare organisations the chance to celebrate the work taking place across health and social care to keep improving experiences of care for patients, families, carers and staff.

As part of this initiative we have worked closely with the Patient Experience Network (PEN) who recently visited our Cardiac Unit at St Peter’s Hospital to observe and talk with patients about their experience of admission, procedure and discharge.

During the Experience of Care week we will be undertaking surveys of patients and staff on “What Matters to you” when receiving or delivering care so we can better understand our patient and staff expectations.

A “15 Steps Challenge” will also be undertaken at one of our static cath labs so we can see care through the eyes of a patient/carer, exploring their first impressions in areas of unit appearance, sounds, smells etc, using a “walkaround”. This will provide us with improvement actions at a ward/service and organisational level.
